Media personally and rapper Boity thulo has been accused by UK based musician Karen Francis of stealing her song.
Boity’s song in question is “Bakae” which was released in 2019 around February.
Karen Francis song is titled “Cake” and it was published on YouTube on the 1st November 2018.
So the two songs are roughly 4 months apart. According to the reports Karen Francis is currently pursuing her legal options as she has claimed that Boity stole he song.
Karen Francis spoke to All4Women and said the following “I listened to Bakae and I was in a completely state of shock because I recognised so many elements of the song instantly.
I could recognise my signature and my structure on Boity’s verses. I’m a songwriter and I can write a song in minutes. I took time to really structure that song [Cake] to really put my signature on it and show a part of me that people are not acquainted.
I played the song for people I know, managers in the South African music industry, producers and different artists and it was the same thing. Once you hear it you can’t un-hear the similarities.”
Bakae was written by Boity and Reason. According to Karen she isn’t sure who the one that allegedly stole her song is.
Though Karen added “We are now awaiting results from forensic analysts who will be able to prove that Bakae manipulated Cake and that my sound and authenticity were stolen. Now it’s about finding out who is responsible and make sure they are held accountable. I’ve just finalised my own record deal and I’ve got the funds to fight this.”
Boity has been accused of not writing her own music and this is just fuelling that fire.
Perhaps all of this drama might be the reason behind her taking so long to release the Bakae music video.
