Award winning musician Sjava’s is reportedly planning his escape from record label Ambitiouz Entertainment.
Sjava has been at Ambitiouz for a few years now. According to a Sowatenlive article Sjava is extremely unhappy at the label and is exploring ways for him to part with Ambitiouz.
Among the grievances Sjava is said to have is not receiving any money for his feature on Black Panther soundtrack in 2018.
Founder and boss at Ambitiouz Entertainment record label Kgosi Mahumapelo responded to the Black Panther soundtrack money claims saying “Ambitiouz have not received any form of payment from the Black Panther project to date and efforts have been made to claim revenues from the project, including hiring international royalty specialists to assist in this regards.”
With regards to his contract situation it seems Sjava has a recording, publishing and marketing deal with Ambitiouz that is currently active for a few more years.
Which means Sjava leaving Ambitiouz won’t be an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps he will live the label under muddy circumstances like ex label mates Fifi Cooper, A-Reece and Emtee.
One thing that is for sure is that Ambitiouz do seem to be in very active on social media as they recently had #AskAmbitiouz where they answered questioned posed to them.
One user asked “Do your artist own their master? How many units did “Umama” by Sjava sell so far?
Ambitiouz response was “Our artists did study but we not sure if they did their Masters.”
I am sure that isn’t a reply that an artist at the record label would enjoy reading.
